10 Week Check Up

We had our second doctor's appointment today. It was pretty uneventful. I was able to ask the doctor my 17 million questions. They tried to hear the heartbeats via doppler but could not. We did hear the placenta...who knew you could hear the placenta? The doctor said it was too early and not to worry. We are scheduled for an ultrasound on June 3. I can't wait to see those babies and how much they have grown.

Pregnancy symptoms are starting to get better. The nausea is slowly going away which is good since I actually lost weight since my last doctor's appointment. I also have days with more energy but am still sleeping so much. Two more weeks and I am out of the first trimester. WooHoo!

First Baby Present

One of my childhood friends Melissa mailed us our first baby gift from Austin...two Astros hats. If you know John, then you know that 90% of the time he is wearing an Astros hat just like this. John will probably have the babies in these hats the minute they fit...or possibly before. Thanks to Melissa, her husband Travis, and her son Juna. We love you guys!

Mother's Day

We had a Mother's Day celebration at our house on Sunday with all of our parents. It was a great night. I wasn't expecting it but John actually gave me the sweetest gift. He gave me two bottle charms for my charm bracelet...one for each baby. He is being so great and supportive through all of this. I couldn't ask for a better husband. I still don't know how I got so lucky.

Nine Weeks

Today I am nine weeks pregnant with our twins and all the pregnancy symptoms have fully kicked in. I will not complain though because I am beyond blessed. We finally shared our news with all of our friends and family this week. The reactions were priceless. I am pretty sure we have some of the best friends and most supportive family there is. We are so thankful for each of you and your love and support of our growing family. We know you will have an important role in our children's lives. Love to you all!

Hearing the Heartbeats

At 6 weeks 6 days pregnant, we had a little scare and had to return to the doctor for a second ultrasound. We anxiously stared at the screen to see those babies again and there they were. Both babies had doubled in size in two days! One of the babies heart rate was 140 bpm while the other was still 115 bpm. Without telling us, Teri (now our new best friend) turned on the doppler to hear their little heartbeats. My breath caught and I started to cry. It was just an amazing sound. At that moment it finally sunk in...I'm going to be a mom!

First Ultrasound with a Big Surprise!

Our first ultrasound was in the afternoon of April 22. I was 6 weeks 4 days pregnant. This is about how it went...

We waited, impatiently, for them to call us back to the room. The ultrasound technician Teri (I don't think I will ever forget this woman) was very nice. About thirty seconds into the ultrasound, I was still trying to decipher what I was looking at. Then Teri nonchalantly asked me, "Do twins run in your family?" Without thought to the situation I was currently in or the question she asked, I nonchalantly replied, "Yes actually. I have twin cousins on my mom's side" (as if this was just casual conversation). Teri then said, "Well...there are definitely two babies with two beating hearts." My reaction was to yell, "What?!!???!" John's reaction was to laugh and then ask, "Seriously?" Then magically on the screen there appeared two sacs with two little babies the size of a piece of rice with fluttering heartbeats. I was shocked into silence...then experienced overwhelming emotion. Teri began measuring away and told us both babies were .25 cm with heart rates around 115 beats per minute. John and I just kept looking at each other and laughing. We walked out of the doctor's office in total and complete shock. We went home, picked up our dog Bailey, and drove to Kingwood to tell our parents. They too were absolutely speechless, but then overwhelmed with happiness. The next day we received a bouquet of flowers from my parents with a card that read, "The more the merrier." This is now the mantra in the our household.

First Prenatal Visit

Our first prenatal visit was on Wednesday April 15. John and I both took a half day from work. We were excited and nervous. I'd been praying that our baby was safe and sound in my tummy. The doctor said I was 5 weeks and 4 days pregnant with an estimated due date of December 12, 2009. Everything looked great and she scheduled my first ultrasound for the following Wednesday. We anxiously awaited the appointment to get our first glimpse of our first child.
