Halloween Felt Boards

I am always on the look out for new things to do with George and Clara.  I recently started subscribing to a bunch of what I call "mommy blogs."  These stay at home Moms are so crafty with their kids.  They post all sorts of projects and have literally thousands of followers.  Recently on Chasing Cheerios she posted a felt board that her girls like to play with.  It looked so easy I had to make one too.

We took a trip to Hobby Lobby, where for about $20, I bought two small dry erase boards and 20 pieces of felt all different colors.

To make the actual board I used two shades of green felt and one piece of blue.

On one side I made scenery.  Using a glue gun, I glued the whole piece of blue felt down first on the front of the dry erase board.  I folded some excess felt over the top of the board and attached it on the back.  Then I cut the lighter green piece of felt to look like hills and glued it over the blue.  I folded some excess felt over the bottom and attached it to the back.

Then I glued the dark green piece on the back covering all the unfinished edges.

All you need next is a little creativity and a pair of scissors.  I wanted to do a Halloween theme.  George and Clara are really into pumpkins so I cut out all sorts of pieces to make a jack-o-lantern.  I also cut out some silly things like rabbit ears and pig noses so they can be creative with it.

I was so excited that George and Clara really seemed to love the felt boards the first time they played with them.

Clara loved this pumpkin so much she kept saying, "Hug."

I am excited about the possibilities of these felt boards...turkeys at Thanksgiving, Santa and Christmas trees for Christmas, snowmen during the winter, and of course things like people, cars, and houses.  The other great thing is the board and pieces are portable and can keep them occupied while we are out to dinner or at friends houses.  Perfect!
